I love how easy it is to grill up some chicken. Right now, I’ve been loving this honey mustard chicken as well as my Grilled BBQ Chicken Breast and Grilled Vegetables. Everything comes together so quickly that weekend cookouts are far from stressful.

Why You’ll Love This Honey Mustard Chicken

  • It’s versatile! Grill these chicken breasts up and eat them on their own, slice it up for a salad, put it into a sandwich, shred it and turn it into pulled honey mustard chicken, and more! You can even make this spicy with some hot sauce. Make this all summer long and never get sick of it.
  • Simple but flavorful. You most likely already have all the ingredients on hand. But despite how simple the ingredients are, the chicken comes out flavorful every time.
  • Easy to prep. This recipe is easy to prepare as well as being a great meal prep! It’s such a great recipe for when you’re short on time.

What You’ll Need

Ingredients needed to make grilled honey mustard chicken.
  • Chicken tenders: I love using boneless, skinless chicken for this, specifically chicken tenders. They come out so tender and moist!
  • Marinade: for the honey mustard marinade, you’ll need mustard seeds, coarse Dijon mustard, honey, olive oil, lemon zest, lemon juice, rosemary, onion powder, minced garlic, black pepper, salt, paprika, and ginger powder.
  • Garnishes: garnishes are optional but I like to top my finished chicken with lemon slices, rosemary, and parsley.

Tips and Notes

  • You can marinate chicken up to 2 days ahead of time. Store in an airtight container.
  • You can grill the chicken in the oven, indoor grill, or outdoor grill. For the best flavor, I recommend grilling outdoor for the char flavor.
  • Want to make this spicier? Add some cayenne pepper, hot sauce, or red chili flakes to the chicken marinade.
  • Be sure the grill is preheated so the chicken doesn’t stick.
  • I always use a thermometer to make sure the chicken tenders are cooked perfectly.

FAQs

Can I freeze this?

You can freeze the chicken tenders in the honey mustard marinade if you’d like! This way, all you have to do is thaw the frozen chicken and the marinade overnight then throw it on the grill. You can also freeze cooked chicken as well. Simply allow the chicken to cool to room temperature and transfer them to an airtight freezer bag or container and freeze for up to 3 months.

Can I use a different cut of chicken?

Yes! This recipe is very versatile. You can swap the chicken tenders for chicken breasts, chicken thighs, chicken drumsticks, wings, or even leg quarters. You can also use bone-in, skin-on cuts of chicken as well. Just pop them onto the grill! If you’re using skin-on chicken, place the chicken skin-side down first. Keep in mind that chicken tenders cook up quickly so adjust the timing for different cuts accordingly.

How do I store leftovers?

If there are any leftovers, you can store this grilled honey mustard chicken in an airtight container, in the fridge. They’ll last 3-4 days. You can reheat them in the microwave, stovetop, oven, or grill.

What if I don’t have a grill?

You can make chicken tenders in the oven instead. Simply place them on a sheet pan and bake them for 20 to 25 minutes at 400°F.
