And then, I go in with the cups. Wildling’s two cups are made 100% food grade silicone, one larger (for the neck, cheekbones, and forehead) and one about as thin as a marker (for delicate areas like the eyes and lips, or even for targeting individual lines). If you’ve never used a cup before, I recommend practicing on your forearm to nail down the technique—even though it’s quite simple. Slightly pinch the middle of the cone, and then place it on the skin before releasing: You’ll feel the skin being pulled into the cup. From here, there are two main movements. The first is that you can quickly go back to re-pinch the cup and release the skin. (Then do this a few more times in the same area.) The second is that you grab the cup, and slowly drag it across the skin until it naturally releases on its own.

On the body, the cups are placed on the body and not moved—a still process that is about release. The face, however, is more fluid, and is about circulation and flow. There’s no perfect facial cupping process that everyone must follow, but for beginners, a simple routine acts as a good foundation. And as you get used to the process, you can make adjustments and tweaks that feel good to you.

Start at the base of the neck, just above the collarbone, use the suction-and-release technique. This, experts note, can help kick-start lymphatic drainage and circulation. Do this several times on both sides of the neck. Then repeat this action just under the ear, right next to the jawbone on both slides.

Once you’ve done this (it helps open the circulation in the face and neck), you can move onto the gliding technique. If you’re one to guasha or facial roll, you’ll see a lot of similarities in the movements. For example, you want to start to lift up and out as you drag the cup across the skin—you also want to make sure you’re keeping your other hand gently resting at the beginning point, as to limit aggressive tugging.

I start at my chin and sweep across the jawline, slowly moving up to my cheekbones with each passing stroke. Then I skip over the eyes (I come back to them later with the smaller cup), and go to my brows and forehead. I start with the cup at the center of my brows and move out just above the brow bone on both sides. Then I work my forehead by pulling the cup into my hairline.

Switching cups, I then tend to my eye area. The skin around the eyes is very thin, and requires extra care. You can use either technique when working here, but if you do glide the cup across the skin, do so extra lightly. You’ll find that the smaller cup doesn’t allow for much suction, which is the exact purpose for using it around the eyes: I cannot stress enough you should be cautious here.

So often I get asked about how long you should do this for, and my go-to answer is whatever feels right! You certainly don’t want to overdo it, but you shouldn’t feel that there’s a singular, perfect routine that works for everyone. The best thing you can do is learn the basics, what you shouldn’t do (don’t be too hard), and the rest is, quite literally, in your hands.

The kit comes with a cloud-like cloth made from viscose bamboo and certified organic cotton, which I use to pat off excess oil post cupping. There’s also a small round 1005 white jade stone, perfect for depuffing eyes. I’ve been keeping mine in the freezer, and using it in the morning when my bags are swollen. The cooled rounded end simply glides over my lids and under eyes, making me look and feel more awake in the process.

The Skin Care Supplement This Facial Rejuvenation Expert Swears By* https://lessmeatmoreveg.com/the-skin-care-supplement-this-facial-rejuvenation-expert-swears-by/ https://lessmeatmoreveg.com/the-skin-care-supplement-this-facial-rejuvenation-expert-swears-by/#respond Sun, 24 Oct 2021 09:26:07 +0000 https://lessmeatmoreveg.com/the-skin-care-supplement-this-facial-rejuvenation-expert-swears-by/

For Kung, it all comes down to thoughtful formulations. “Sustainable and clean beauty products rooted in science are important to me but hard to find. This is why I personally love the new cellular beauty+ formula. There is nothing like it on the market,” she says. “The four high-quality ingredients and their dosing are informed by clinical studies. This unique combination simultaneously supports my skin barrier, moisture, texture, and glow—from the inside out! This smart beauty supplement will be a lifelong tool for me to maximize my cellular beauty potential.”*

She’s not wrong: The supplement is the only one on the market that combines these four unique plant bioactives. What’s more, they’re included at percentages with proven efficacy, which isn’t true of all supplements.

For example, the astaxanthin in this formula is clinically shown to enhance skin quality.* In one study, astaxanthin supplementation significantly improved skin elasticity, smoothness, and hydration in just 12 weeks.* Another study found astaxanthin improved skin wrinkles, age spot size, and skin texture.* And in a recent double-blind clinical, subjects reported significant improvement in moisture levels (especially around the eyes), overall improved elasticity, and appearance of tone.* Another recent double-blind clinical found that it can even help skin’s water-retention capacity and reduce barrier damage.*

The phytoceramides promote hydration and barrier health.* In one study, participants who took a phytoceramide-rich wheat extract oil for three months saw up to a 35% improvement in skin hydration.* And you might not even have to wait that long for results; in another study participants saw improved skin hydration after just 15 days.*

Then two other powerful antioxidants round out the lineup: coenzyme Q10 and pomegranate whole fruit extract. CoQ10 is a naturally occurring oil-soluble antioxidant that fights free radicals and preserves cellular membranes and structures.* This can help improve skin texture: One study found that CoQ10 supplementation reduces wrinkles and lines while enhancing skin smoothness.*

Finally, pomegranate whole fruit extract can help skin deal with environmental stressors, like from UV exposure. Clinical studies have shown that this targeted phytonutrient-rich botanical has the ability to enhance photoprotection in the skin, meaning your skin cells are better equipped to deal with UV rays and their subsequent effects.* For example, one randomized controlled trial found that the pomegranate extract increased skin’s resilience against UVB rays, as well as changes to the skin microbiome.* Another—this one, a double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial—found that taking pomegranate extract orally could help with common sun-induced pigmentation.*

Bottom line? This revolutionary formula seriously delivers.

A 2-Step Facial Massage To Help Smooth Away Laugh Lines https://lessmeatmoreveg.com/a-2-step-facial-massage-to-help-smooth-away-laugh-lines/ https://lessmeatmoreveg.com/a-2-step-facial-massage-to-help-smooth-away-laugh-lines/#respond Sat, 09 Oct 2021 13:22:20 +0000 https://lessmeatmoreveg.com/a-2-step-facial-massage-to-help-smooth-away-laugh-lines/

Of all the types of wrinkles, laugh lines (also called “smile lines,” or “marionette lines”) are one of the most difficult to treat. Technically, they fall under the “expression wrinkle” bucket, as they form by, well, smiling or laughing—and tend to stick around when collagen declines and your skin isn’t as able to bounce back from these movements. But these creases are also considered “gravitational,” too: When your facial fat pads start to sag over time (the effects of gravity afflict us all at some point), the lower cheek area becomes more hollow, which can make those marionette lines more pronounced. All that to say: Laugh lines are no joke.

Now, we would never tell you to quit smiling and laughing—not only is that ridiculous advice, but your mental health is a vital component of skin care, anyway. But for those moments when you’re not actively engaging, experts suggest slotting in intentional movement, via a face yoga practice or mindful massage, both of which can stimulate blood flow and promote collagen production.

If you’re in the market for some facial massage tips, you’re in luck: We recently came across an easy TikTok tutorial to target those laugh lines—with just two steps, it seamlessly fits into your skin care routine.

How Can I Improve My Facial Health? – Art of Healthy Living https://lessmeatmoreveg.com/how-can-i-improve-my-facial-health-art-of-healthy-living/ https://lessmeatmoreveg.com/how-can-i-improve-my-facial-health-art-of-healthy-living/#respond Tue, 21 Sep 2021 12:50:50 +0000 https://lessmeatmoreveg.com/how-can-i-improve-my-facial-health-art-of-healthy-living/

From your eyes to your skin, your face encompasses a number of parts that you may want to consider keeping happy and healthy. Rather than leaving your facial health to fate, there are things that you can do that may maintain, or even improve, the look of your face. While life may not be all about looks, the face can be seen as rather important, from liaising with others to taking in the majority of the five senses, and even making a great first impression.

Wear Your Glasses

When your optician has assessed your vision, they will present you with a prescription that is tailored to your eye needs. From here, you may have had a bespoke pair of glasses created, and been advised on when to wear them. While some people may think that glasses detract from the rest of their face, they can actually be both fashionable and helpful. Failure to wear them can cause a number of problems, including problematic eye development, or the worsening of existing eye conditions. It can be a good idea to keep your glasses on you at all times, in your bag or briefcase, as well as to learn how to fix bent glasses or re-attach lenses, in case something goes wrong throughout the day.

Wear Sun Cream

Some people may shy away from using standard sun cream on their face, as it can feel greasy, oily, or heavy. Others may simply prefer to wear makeup as opposed to sun protection. Regular exposure to UV rays can damage your skin, causing premature wrinkles, dark spots, and even skin cancer. To combat this, you should consider using sun cream on your face, much like you would for the rest of your body. You can pick up specific facial sunscreens that are lightweight, or even have a level of foundation mixed in, to meet the rest of your skincare needs.

Avoid Touching Spots

Whether you are a teenager, or in the golden years of your life, you probably hate it when spots appear. Not only can these be unsightly to look at, but they may also play havoc with your self-confidence. It can be incredibly tempting to pick or squeeze spots, however doing so could cause problems in itself. When you squeeze a spot, you will be causing an open wound, which could allow dirt and debris to enter, leading to an infection. Likewise, continuously scratching or picking an area can delay the healing process of the skin, leaving your face temporarily, or even permanently, scarred. Instead, continue to thoroughly clean your face as normal, and consider if there are any products or hormonal reasons that could be causing your breakout.

Looking after your face can help to boost your self-esteem, keep you looking young, and make you feel attractive around others. By considering your medical needs, as well as a bit of common sense, you may be able to improve your facial health.

An Expert’s Facial Exercise To Target Your Cheeks, Lips & Jawline https://lessmeatmoreveg.com/an-experts-facial-exercise-to-target-your-cheeks-lips-jawline/ https://lessmeatmoreveg.com/an-experts-facial-exercise-to-target-your-cheeks-lips-jawline/#respond Thu, 02 Sep 2021 18:23:49 +0000 https://lessmeatmoreveg.com/an-experts-facial-exercise-to-target-your-cheeks-lips-jawline/

For an exercise that targets quite a few regions of your face, it’s surprisingly simple: All you need to do, says face yoga expert Parmita Katkar in a TikTok video, is puff some air in your cheeks, then smile and lift your cheeks 50 times. That’s it! You’ll just want to “avoid squinting and contorting other facial muscles,” says Katkar, as this unintentional movement can demolish your progress. (Face yoga is about intentionally isolating the movement, remember?)

Don’t be fooled by its simplicity, though: This exercise can be hard, especially once you hit 30 or so pulses. Because your facial muscles are so small and delicate, it’s difficult to isolate and activate the exact muscle you’re trying to target, particularly more fragile areas like the eyes and mouth. That’s why it’s pretty common to unintentionally hold your breath or tense up (or in this case, squint) as you hold a pose during face yoga.

As for when to practice, many experts suggest once in the morning to wake up your facial muscles and once again before bed to release all the tension you’ve accumulated during the day. You don’t need to practice for very long—just a few minutes will do; again, your facial muscles are much tinier and more delicate than, say, your biceps—so they don’t need as much time and effort to tone.

The Best Facial Oils https://lessmeatmoreveg.com/the-best-facial-oils/ https://lessmeatmoreveg.com/the-best-facial-oils/#respond Mon, 23 Aug 2021 12:50:02 +0000 https://lessmeatmoreveg.com/the-best-facial-oils/

If you are scared of putting oil on your skin… I get it. There were far too many years that we were told that oil clogs your pores and putting oil on your skin = acne. Considering I use a face oil every day and my skin has never looked better, I think we can all agree that oil can be great for your skin! In fact, facial oils may actually be the antidote to your acne-prone skin!

What Are Facial Oils?

Facial oil is an umbrella term that covers a wide variety of products that moisturize your skin. It could be referring to essential oil-focused products, synthetic oils or plant-based oils. There are single oil products or oil blends. Depending on your skin type and needs, there are different options for you!

While they are called facial oils they can actually be used on any part of your skin! Facial oils are amazing if you have dry or dehydrated skin or just want a nourishing boost for your skin.

How to Use a Facial Oil

Think of a facial oil like a moisturizer. It’s the last step in your skincare routine… unless you’re using a facial oil and a moisturizer in which case the moisturizer goes on last to lock everything in. I like to add 5-10 drops of facial oil (or a few pumps!) to my fingertips and then gently massage the oil onto my skin.

What’s the Difference Between a Facial Oil and a Moisturizer?

Both facial oils and moisturizers are here to hydrate the skin! Facial oils are… you guessed it: just oils. Moisturizers are typically water-based and contain more ingredients.  Generally, moisturizers require some kind of emollient because water + oils don’t mix. Facial oils are a more pure version because they don’t contain water. I believe both serve a purpose and use both in my skincare routine!

I find oils to be more nourishing and moisturizing so I depend on them when my skin is dryer. I like using a moisturizer when my skin doesn’t need as much moisture (like in the humid summer months in MN!). I typically apply my facial oil at night and a moisturizer in the morning.

The Best Single Oils for Your Face

Below, I’m sharing my favorite oil blends but I wanted to share these single oil options as well! They are typically cheaper and can be found in almost all health food stores. Make sure you’re buying high quality products – look for cold-pressed and organic where possible.

Pure Rosehip Seed Oil – is great for redness and scarring.

Grapeseed Oil – is great for dry, acne-prone skin. (My personal favorite!)

Squalane Oil – great for oily skin. which people with oily skin tend to love.

The million dollar question: How does this technique lift the face? Well, as we mentioned, floating your hands upward can stimulate blood flow, which delivers oxygen and nutrients to the cells—which, in turn, can help promote collagen synthesis (aka, what helps your skin stay firm and taut). It also helps firm the facial tissue by stimulating muscles: In one study, patients even claimed feeling tighter, more supple skin after regular massages.

The upward motion in particular can encourage more circulation in the tissue, which is great for reducing morning puffiness (as opposed to using downward strokes, which many find is fit for decreasing tension and calming the skin).

Vitamin C & Witch Hazel Facial Toner Recipe https://lessmeatmoreveg.com/vitamin-c-witch-hazel-facial-toner-recipe/ https://lessmeatmoreveg.com/vitamin-c-witch-hazel-facial-toner-recipe/#respond Thu, 05 Aug 2021 12:00:17 +0000 https://lessmeatmoreveg.com/vitamin-c-witch-hazel-facial-toner-recipe/

Finding a natural skincare routine can be tough. It often leads to strange things like washing your face with olive oil or making a face mask out of yogurt.

It can be hard to find natural alternatives to some of your favorite conventional products, but this recipe is one that made the switch easy!

How to Make a DIY Natural Witch Hazel Toner Recipe

I never really understood the purpose of a facial toner until I had kids and occasionally had skin that was a mix between dry and oily at the same time.

My confused skin was challenging to care for, as I needed something that would help even out my skin’s oil production.

I found that a toner greatly improved my skin tone almost immediately and realized there were several reasons for this:

  • Skin is naturally acidic, but many skincare products are more on the alkaline side. A quality toner can help restore natural skin pH.
  • Facial toners can also help shrink pores and balance oil production.
  • When used under makeup, toners can provide a protective barrier on the skin to prevent impurities from makeup from penetrating skin.

Natural Facial Toner Ingredients: Vitamin C and Witch Hazel

I chose the ingredients for this toner carefully.

Witch Hazel Benefits

Witch hazel, an extract from the leaves and bark of the Hamamelis virginiana shrub, has a long history of use, especially in skincare. Many use it successfully as a natural remedy for hemorrhoids, burns, and other skin irritation.

It is naturally anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial, making it excellent for helping reduce the appearance of acne, redness, and skin irritation. It helps lock in moisture, making it a good choice for oily and dry skin, and is high in tannins that reduce the appearance of fine lines.

Vitamin C Benefits

Vitamin C helps tighten the skin and maintain the natural pH. Many high-end skin products (that cost hundreds of times as much as this homemade toner) use vitamin C (often synthetic) for this purpose. Vitamin C is also important internally, but topical vitamin C provides much more skin benefit.

IMPORTANT: Vitamin C is an acid and while the skin likes a mildly acidic environment, too much too fast can create irritation, especially if you have sensitive skin. You can add up to 3 times as much vitamin C as I include in this recipe, but start slowly and work up to find your skin’s perfect balance. Over time, you can add slightly more vitamin C, but don’t exceed 1.5 teaspoons.

Tips for Homemade Facial Toner Success

This recipe makes a small amount of facial toner, and this is important. Though you could easily double the recipe, it wouldn’t be as effective.

Vitamin C breaks down over time. I prefer to make about as much as I need for a week at a time and keep it in the fridge to have a cooling toner to use after washing my face.

You do not need to keep this refrigerated, but it slightly extends its shelf life. Either way, keep out of sunlight and away from heat.

Witch Hazel Toner Recipe

Make this gentle and cleansing natural witch hazel toner with a boost of antioxidant vitamin C.

Instructions

  • Combine all ingredients in a small glass bottle, spray bottle, or dropper bottle.

  • Shake well to incorporate.

Notes

Use after washing face each day. Apply with a cloth or cotton pad.

Or, Make Vitamin C Serum Instead!

If you have really dry skin or don’t want to use witch hazel, you can use food-grade glycerin in place of the witch hazel. This will produce a serum instead of a toner. Either one should be made in small batches and often because vitamin C oxidizes so quickly.

Ever made your own witch hazel toner? Try it and let me know what you think!

A Facial Massage Tutorial To Ease Forehead Lines https://lessmeatmoreveg.com/a-facial-massage-tutorial-to-ease-forehead-lines/ https://lessmeatmoreveg.com/a-facial-massage-tutorial-to-ease-forehead-lines/#respond Tue, 13 Jul 2021 01:48:26 +0000 https://lessmeatmoreveg.com/a-facial-massage-tutorial-to-ease-forehead-lines/

On that note, many turn to facial massage. A regular practice, after all, has been shown to increase blood flow to the face and deliver healthy nutrients and oxygen to the skin cells—which, in turn, has been shown to help with fine lines, promote collagen synthesis, and even tone.

But a regular practice looks different for everyone: Some use tools; others rely on their fingers. Some dedicate several minutes to the venture; others find that a quick, two-minute technique is all they need.

Here’s a tutorial that works for all parties, demonstrated by beauty influencer Ava Lee—founder of the popular blogTikTok, and YouTube channel Glow With Ava: Either use it on its own or fold it into your daily facial massage repertoire.

With today’s bounty of high-tech gadgets—as well as ancient healing stones that withstand the test of time—face massagers truly command the market. Each massager has its own set of benefits (some lift and tone; others dial down inflammation), but they all impart some sort of glow: In fact, regular facial massage has been shown to increase blood flow to the face and deliver much-needed nutrients and oxygen to the skin cells—which, in turn, has been shown to help with fine lines, promote collagen synthesis, and even tone.

While you can totally go to town with your fingers (here’s a luxe, nine-step routine, in case you’re curious), these high-quality facial massagers put in the work for you: Our picks below come with textured edges to knead tension, vibrating pulses to buzz away puffiness, and slick gemstones to cool and soothe the skin with every swipe.
